 My name is Daniel Powell, and I am the founder of Home Watch Professional House Checks, proudly serving Rochester, NY and the surrounding communities. This business was built from years of seeing firsthand how quickly issues can escalate in an unoccupied home—especially during our harsh Western New York winters. Frozen pipes, furnace failures, storm damage, leaks, intrusion, pests, and electrical problems can go unnoticed for days or weeks when a home is left vacant. I knew homeowners needed a trustworthy professional to look after their property while they were away.

Before starting Home Watch USA, I served eight years in the U.S. Navy Reserves and spent 25 years with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, where I later retired. After my career in public service, I continued working extensively in real estate, construction, home inspections, property valuation, FHA 203k consulting, radon testing, and property services. Across all of these roles, I saw a consistent pattern: more seasonal travel, more vacant homes, more empty real estate listings — but no structured, professional home watch service in Western New York.

That led me to ask the question that shaped my business:
“Who is looking after these homes when the owners are away?”

After researching the Home Watch industry, I discovered that professional Home Watch services are common in many states but virtually unknown in our region. With a background rooted in safety, property protection, and public service, I felt called to fill that need and help homeowners safeguard one of their most valuable investments.

I’m a lifelong member of the Rochester community and attended both Monroe Community College and SUNY Brockport. When I’m not conducting Home Watch visits, I enjoy spending time with my family, supporting local sports teams, staying active, volunteering with the American Legion, and supporting local businesses. My commitment to integrity, communication, and professionalism comes directly from my life in public service.

I take pride in offering exceptional communication — whether you prefer in-person meetings, phone calls, text messages, or 24-hour voicemail. My goal is to respond promptly, keep you informed, and exceed your expectations.

I am a Certified Home Watch Reporter™, trained through the Home Watch Academy, and have completed rigorous coursework through the Home Watch Training Program and Home Watch Boot Camp. I also hold certifications from the National Home Watch Association. I am fully insured, background checked, and committed to ongoing education.

My mission is simple: to provide consistent, visual, non-invasive home checks; communicate clearly with homeowners; and act in your best interest whenever something appears out of the ordinary.
